Botzu's Quick Evaluation

+ Talent: Passively increases the DEF of allies within range
+ S3: Operators can tank Physical Damage with ease (outside a certain future event)
+ Enables Healing Defenders (which usually don't have large/any Defense boosts) to survive harder hitting enemies
+ Prevents your Defenders from getting 1-shot by some bosses if you are under-leveled
- As the team gets stronger and survivability becomes less of an issue, the other utility/support based healers become more appealing.
- DEF buffs don't help against Arts Damage.

This enigmatic Sarkaz healer has earned the admiration and respect of her fellow Operators for her empathy, dedication, and passion for the protection of life. Shining is a 6★ single-target Medic who specializes in powerful healing and DEF support

Her Talent, Black Fiend's Protection, as well as her second and third Skill, all provide DEF buffs to her allies. Auto-Protect places a temporary shield on Shining’s healing target, increasing the Operator’s DEF and absorbing damage for a short time. The Skill also holds multiple charges as it levels, so Shining can build charges of Auto-Protect between enemy waves to blunt the next wave's initial assault. Her third Skill, Creed Field, greatly increases the DEF of allies in her range for a considerable amount of time. This Skill can be used quickly after deployment, has a long duration, and provides a considerable boost to healing strength, making it a great burst option for emergency situations or when fighting bosses. If the Doctor wants to use Shining in a non-DEF situation, her first Skill, Creed, significantly increases her healing power and gives her a small speed bonus.

Shining is a premier tank healer, and her DEF-enhancing support is great against most enemies in the game. Combined with her ability to quickly throw out very large heals, she excels at keeping frontline Operators alive. Her amazing abilities come at a cost, though--specifically, her DP cost, which is quite high. It should also be noted that Shining’s DEF buffs do nothing against enemies who deal Arts damage. Despite this, having Skills for both sustained and burst healing makes Shining a great Medic in any mission. Invest in this Sarkaz healer, and she will absolutely shine on the battlefield.

Elite Promotion Discussion

  • 3rd Skill - Creed Field - A huge Defense buff to all Allies within her range and an ok output buff.  On top of an impressive 60 second duration (almost as impressive as her summer skin),  this is a really amazing Skill for supporting your blocking Operators against hard- hitting physical attackers.  A crazy-long cooldown, being limited to allies within her range, and not doing anything to mitigate Arts damage limit its overall usefulness to more niche situations.  Also, her buff is additive to the +DEF provided by Defender Skills and Talents and not multiplicative (for those of us allergic to Math: that is a bad thing).  That being said, the majority of enemies deal physical damage, so this is not a Skill that should be ignored.

  • Talent 2 - Code of Law - An ok attack speed buff that improves her throughput and is welcome since Medics have long Attack Intervals.

  • Talent 1 upgrade - Black Fiend’s Protection - An improvement to the flat Defense increase.

In an era where straight tanking is generally not the ideal solution, Shining has seen a dramatic drop in viability. She is almost always outclassed by the far more versatile and lower rarity options. On top of that, her Mastery gains are fairly unimpressive and best left to personal desire. This is especially true for Roguelike players where her Hope cost only lowers her value further. The exception to this, and the place she still holds value, is in enabling Aak buffs. It is a modestly popular strategy in Advanced situations (or just for fun), and S3 Mastery is frequently required for ranged units to survive the stim. But if that doesn't interest you, she is a pretty safe skip.

Alternatively, if you have no interest in Aak buffing, S2 can be an appealing option due to S3’s ludicrous SP cost. However, it is a very low priority option. There are many better ST Medics to consider Mastering before Shining such as Warfarin, the Elemental Medics, and the Therapist Medics.

IS2 Specific Notes

Most damage in this gamemode is either Arts-based (including Neural Drones) or not strong enough to be worth using Shining for. Even Boss 2, who deals large amounts of Physical damage, prefers Multi-target Medics as the damage is map-wide. Generally never worth the Hope cost over lower rarity Operators.

Further observations suggest she could possibly offer even more with her Originium Arts... As battle reports indicated, Shining not just could heal hurt Operators, but also 'protect' them from combat damage with Originium Arts.

It is said that Operator Shining would demonstrate certain unique Originium Arts in private gatherings. It was described as a warm glow moving slowly in a dark room before gradually expanding, then even dancing on the wall and changing color. The performance seemed to captivate the children at Rhodes Island.
Compared to the radiant light emitted by Nearl and other Operators, Shining's glow appeared more solid and tangible.
As for the nature of the aura, why she left her own kind, what has she been through emotionally, what is the Sarkaz's role in various political bodies and similar questions, Shining always declined to answer.

Let me tell you...
Shining's healing expertise in no way means she's your typical frail medical genius.
True, no one saw her in actual combat. Yes, she seemed warm and gentle like sunset, and even a bit lonely... Very much unlike a warrior, right?
You must all feel she's incredible only in resolve and medical skills? Perhaps that she possessed Originium Arts of a different kind? That must be what you're thinking, since that's what you've ever seen her do.
But I must you, she is the mightiest swordfighter I've ever seen.
I know, I know, several commandos and rather reckless people are great swordfighter.
However, I'm telling you, Shining doesn't take a backseat to any of them. No way. I was foolish to assume what she has in her hand all the time is a normal Arts staff...
I don't know why she doesn't use a sword. Her expression was... loathing? As if blades disgusted her, or maybe she was disgusted to wield a blade... I'm not sure.
Anyway, she has been hiding her sword skills from Rhodes Island.
Proof?
I'm still alive and here for the debriefing, isn't that proof enough? Why would I lie?
Let's put it this way, sunset wasn't just a metaphor.
I suspect she could turn bright daylight into night in an instant.

The 'Confessor' is a secret Sarkaz organization. Even I don't have much intel on them.
It's impossible for Shining to be a mundane Sarkaz traveling healer, judging by her reaction upon meeting Amiya for the first time: subtle, but conspicuous, when it's common knowledge among humans.
So, on which side does she stand?
The Redeemers are not a simple Sarkaz outfit like she made it out to be. If another so-called Redeemer crisis should arise, is she tight enough with us for her to merely stand by, or even fight alongside us?
Her past must be as enigmatic as her emotions. It's impossible to try to figure her out solely based upon her behavior.
Maybe we could learn her true thoughts if someone like the Doctor can get her to lower her guard.
Anyone who could understand her, I'm sure, would never divulge any of her secrets to any agency.

It very well reflected the wish of many medical staff that their patients recognize just how precious life is while undergo treatment.
