Botzu's Quick Evaluation

+ Talent: Stacks increasing HP for every enemy he kills
+ Huge HP and ATK stats
+ S1: decent damage and self-sustain
+ S2: Significant DPS boost once it activates
= Duelist Guard: Block-1
- Trait: Single Target, block 1, and requiring the killing blow make this slow to charge.
- S2: long charge time means it won't have time to make a significant difference on many maps
- Very low DEF
- Players with Melantha already developed may be better served waiting to acquire a more widely applicable front-line DPS

Operator Overview

"Ahh, I've longed for a hurricane of blood."

Flamebringer is every dual-wielding, leather-wearing, battle-crazy anime character all rolled into one. He has a mysterious past, only smiles on the battlefield, and spends his spare time taking care of flowers (probably so he can make speeches about how ephemeral the life of a flower is before he shanks somebody). He is also a 5* Duelist Guard who strikes a balance between DPS and Survival by gaining max HP when he kills an enemy.

Flamebringer has one of the highest maximum HP stats of any Operator in Arknights, and his Talent, Bloody Slaughter, buffs it up higher for every enemy unit he kills. Given the chance to massacre some weaklings early in a fight, Flamebringer can survive hits that would flatten most other Operators. His Skill 1, Blood Pact, shores up his survivability further by recovering his HP every few attacks. In contrast, his Skill 2, Blade Demon, rewards his survivability by giving him a massive, permanent buff to ATK and ASPD after he successfully attacks enough times in one battle.

That being said, don’t expect Flamebringer to be hitting his max potential in every battle. As a single-target Guard who can only Block-1, Flamebringer isn’t great at quickly amassing a lot of kills unless you go out of your way to feed them to him. On short, frantic maps where he doesn’t have the time to power-up, Flamebringer may not be much help to Rhodes Island. Then again, when you’re in for the long haul on a map like Annihilation, Flamebringer can snowball into the deadly dark knight of your most angsty teenage dreams.

Newbie Tier List Explanation

People love to meme on Flamebringer. He's better than what your friends will tell you, but not good enough to be worth developing.

Note: This unit does not have Mastery grades. This means the unit is generally not one worth spending the resources of Mastery on. However this write-up should help with skill selection, should you want to use the unit regardless.

Flamebringer is a historically contentious unit. He had an outsized, and often vocal fan base compared to other early off-meta units. That has waned with the game’s general power-creep, but in fairness, those fans had a point. While Flamebringer’s S2 is active, he can be a really good fighter with solid DPS and DPH. Unfortunately, a 40 SP Attack Recovery skill is very difficult to charge and he's a dead spot on the team while waiting for it. On many maps it won't end up activating at all without special planning. Still, if you can learn to work around it, S2 is his best skill.

You can also consider raising his S1 if you're intent on using him frequently. S2’s high SP cost is often prohibitive, and his S1 gives a healthy dose of self sustain and consistency. Note that he has a rather rare S1M2 breakpoint, which is the most important milestone for the skill. The M3 is much more of a luxury, even before considering cost.

Profile

Flamebringer, the self-professed Wandering Sarkaz Warrior, has no personal history besides that which he presented himself. The value of his document is rather limited, being only a list of the names of people who have died at his hands. However, the list does suggest that he is an outstanding swordsman.

Clinical Analysis

Increase Trust to 25.
Imaging tests reveal blurry outlines of this operator's internal organs, clouded with abnormal dark spots. His circulatory system shows an abnormally high rate of Originium particulate matter, with other signs of Oripathy infection, we can confirm that the operator is indeed Infected.

[Cell-Originium Assimilation] 18%
The infection has spread far, with the face and neck showing clear signs of Originium erosion.

[Blood Originium-Crystal Density] 0.41u/L
Having reached mid stage infection levels, and owing to the operator's refusal to cooperate with treatment, the infection is likely to worsen.

This Sarkaz swordmaster is a rare creature at Rhodes Island. Many operators and staff give Flamebringer a wide berth.
Most of the time, Flamebringer is a man of few words, prefers to stay by himself, and shows his personal feelings only to the Doctor. At that point, he seems like a completely different person. But behind the arrogant attitude he puts up for the Doctor, there appears to be another side of Flamebringer waiting for something, or perhaps expecting something.
After witnessing Flamebringer take a few lives, one must admit that the bloodthirsty madness of the swordmaster is indeed formidable, and of tremendous use on the battlefield. But the duality of this individual is striking, and we must be wary of the relationship between Operator Flamebringer and the Doctor.

Archive File 2

Increase Trust to 100.
Rhodes Island is home to a wealth of combat experience, including some warriors so deep in the fight they struggle to ever leave the battlefield. But Flamebringer does not fit neatly into the roster. His combat skills are second to none, certainly. But he has never seen victory as a goal to be won. He enjoys the process and excitement of taking lives for its own sake.
The use of the word 'commitment' with regard to battle is quite peculiar, but Flamebringer's fighting style does give the impression that he is fully committed to the art. Only when facing the razor thin line between life and death will he ever crack a smile. To Flamebringer, that moment is the ecstasy one lives for.

Archive File 3

Increase Trust to 150.
Due to the peculiar nature of this operator, human resources opted to conduct an investigation into his past.
There is no doubt that the list of names Flamebringer provided himself is significantly understated. Each name on the list is a person of great importance, with the capacity to personally swing the fate of a battle. In other words, if Flamebringer did indeed take these lives, then his past is far more complicated than we ever imagined. It is necessary for us to conduct a deeper investigation and reevaluate Flamebringer's position as a Rhodes Island Operator.

End of record: Dr. Kal'tsit put a stop to the second round of investigations. She believes the Doctor is capable of managing the Flamebringer situation at this point. If he chose to bury his past, digging it up will only cause problems.
Or perhaps the people and events that have been buried simply have not yet had their time to reemerge into the story.

Archive File 4

Increase Trust to 200.
As his time with Rhodes Island grew, we came to know that Flamebringer quite enjoys gardening, cultivating potted plants and flowers. It was quite surprising to learn he held on to such 'interests.'
Most operators never have a chance to learn about Flamebringer's inner self, and chalk these things up to a kind of 'contrast': a deadly swordmaster returns from the battlefield to care for his flowers. That's it.
But of course, it may truly be that simple. That Flamebringer treats these plants, himself, his allies, his enemies, and all living beings with the exact same, unified attitude. We must first gain an understanding of this before we can truly understand Flamebringer.
Perhaps this is the reason Flamebringer regards both himself and his enemies so fleetingly. From this perspective, his cold and arrogant attitude may stem from an internal philosophy regarding the nature of life itself.

Promotion Record

Upgrade to Elite LV2.
A true warrior knows no fear of death. He will challenge the limits of life itself again and again, in search of the depths of his own heart, in search of eternal glory, and in search of the greatest skill. The same is true for Flamebringer. He wields his two blades to expand the edges of his destiny. As for why he is so obsessed with this pursuit, perhaps it is to explore the meaning of life itself at this conflict-riddled moment in history. I certainly hope that is it.

Voice Lines

Default
Appointed as Assistant {@nickname}, compared to the old ones, today's battle are too relaxed and juvenile . They are weak. Weak enough to make weapons rust. And once a warrior's weapons rust, death soon follows.
Talk 1 Life is but a brief flicker before the vast maw of annihilation. Cherish that view of the sunset while you still can, {@nickname}.
Talk 2 Practical exercises? Nah, I'm not interested. While Rhodes Island boasts many powerful warriors, squandering one's physical strength on a game is wasteful. Only on the edge of life and death does the clashing of swords have value.
Talk 3 I'm not concerned with the plight of the Infected? Hmph, don't misunderstand me - fighting in vain is what I hate. No enemy worth spilling my blood has come forward, and that's all there is to it.
Talk after Promotion 1 Rampant slaughter liberates your inner instinct, 'teamwork' only robs you of it. What 'trust' and 'strategizing' buy you are nothing but illusions of security. And these illusions, {@nickname}, will one day cost you your life.
Talk after Promotion 2 This blade ran through two crown princes, and this other one slew three generals. In our chaotic world, anything can happen. I don't know who will claim my life, but on that day, I sure hope it'll be more exciting than when I took these lives.
Talk after Trust Increase 1 Shining, huh? A pity, she could have been a worthy adversary. But after she got pulled into that mess with the 'Confessarii,' I bet she felt her blade had been besmirched. Hmph, Swordsmen without faith in their swords are beneath mention.
Talk after Trust Increase 2 {@nickname}, you remember that battle, right? After killing all the ambushers, I led the survivors and charged straight into the traitor's fortress. I was the only one who made it out alive. How did it all start? Oh, you know the answer to that. I've seen you before, and my memory is very good.
Talk after Trust Increase 3 {@nickname}, help me fetch those seeds in the cupboard, won't you? Thank you. Yes, I'm actually quite fond of flowers. No matter how brilliantly they blossom, their petals must wither and fall into the wind. When will the petals wither next, Doctor?
Idle Vigilance can keep you alive, {@nickname}.
Onboard We meet again, {@nickname}. Don't worry, I understand the situation you're in now, and pose no threat to you. I shall be your blade, so use me as you see fit, Doctor.
Watching Battle Record The skills a great warrior needs are those which defy recording.
Promotion 1 Promotion? What? So you actually care about these rituals now?
Promotion 2 I have no concept of what it's like to be Infected. Perhaps Rhodes Island can help me understand. I don't care, but if you have your own considerations. Fine, I'll hear them out.
Added to Squad Ahh, I've longed for a hurricane of blood.
Appointed as Squad Leader I've been a captain before, and it didn't end well.
