据罗德岛外勤部教官组统计,在三百位参与外貌特征识别测试的预备干员中,超过六成将参考图像上的逻各斯识别为黎博利。另有三成干员认为,逻各斯的“耳羽”和角源于某支罕见的东方神民族群——他们认真地参加了训练课程,但仍然与正确答案失之交臂。截至目前为止,仅有不到二十名干员对逻各斯的种族作出了正确的判断,其中有五人精确地指出了逻各斯所属的王庭,另有两人是蒙对了答案的幸运儿,还有八人被查出作弊,测试成绩作废。

当然,逻各斯把最有分量的点子用在了他的源石技艺研究上。在过去,我们认为萨卡兹巫术与现代源石技艺在源石应用史上有着截然不同的渊源,两者并不相通。后者易于掌握,其施术效用已有精确的阐述;前者强大但难以控制,且与血脉以及特定的仪式相绑定。逻各斯对这一结论持保留态度,但他翻遍了古老的卷轴与现代的书籍,都未能找到一种可以将其推翻的思路。
连逻各斯自己都感到意外的是,灵感竟在他与Mechanist的解谜游戏中诞生。那一次,Mechanist在谜题中加入了语音输入指令,需要逻各斯佩戴语音控制设备,对谜题进行口头破解。在无意中,逻各斯使用了咒言,设备即刻响应,谜题应声而解。这让女妖意识到——假如咒术既是一种靠言说、书写、咏唱或演奏完成的巫术仪式,又是一套受规则约束的表达方法,那么它能否用于阐释现代的源石技艺?
在Pith和Misery的见证下,逻各斯以女妖咒术为蓝本,成功地从现代的源石技艺体系中拆解出了萨卡兹巫术最基本的组成元素——仪式的“语义”,即巫术施术者对目的和代价两者关系的定义。这么解释也许会让人一头雾水,我们只需要知道,逻各斯为源石技艺的应用开创了新的可能性:只要设计出正确的咒言或是仪式,那么任何一种现代的源石技艺都可能被巫术复现,包括那些应用于大规模工业生产的源石技艺。反过来说,在巫术的施术中应用更加现代的方式也并非不可能。
按照核心圈的惯例,这种重大的学术突破需要通过一部著作来公开地发表,或许卡兹戴尔也该有自己的“大部头”了。当我们与逻各斯谈及此事时,年轻的女妖沉思许久,然后告诉我们:

金色的密林与狭长迂回的谷口掩盖着一条密径,这条小径没有岔道,踏入其中的人亦不能折返——只有女妖与尊贵的客人能够踏上它由咒文编织成的躯干。当你终于穿过这条小径,还需要踏上一座被浓雾包裹着的狭长石桥,踏着洁白的砖石继续步行。经过一夜步行,白昼送来的第一缕微光潜入山崖之间。向日出的方向望去,你终于来到了石桥的尽头,足以容纳数百人的阶梯式露台出现在你的面前。这时,你小心翼翼地摘下女妖们为客人戴上的面纱,得以清晰地见到河谷壮美的全貌。
庞大的石质结构镶嵌在河谷的两侧,它们曾经是用来构筑堡垒的石料,如今被咒术重塑为灵动的形态,在山崖的环抱下托起庭院与凌空的走道,让你想起女妖曼妙的衣裙。临近正午,假如你跟上那些戏水的女妖,去到河谷的深处,冰晶般澄澈的溪流将在你的眼前汇聚,载着女妖们轻声的咏唱,向着河谷的更深处蜿蜒而去。太阳降落在金色的密林上,叶片的反光像是一簇簇被微风驯服了的火焰,在空中花园满溢的色彩之下燃烧。即便你忧心这样的景色会夺走一个人一生的时间,也请不要在黄昏时分匆匆离去。看,河谷的女主人身着午夜般的轻纱,在老妪的簇拥下踏出寝宫,而女妖们则会在此刻摘下花环与面纱。她将领唱,为在白昼与黑夜之间逝去的灵魂献上挽歌。

坦率地讲,组成罗德岛精英干员团队的,是一群不折不扣的怪人。我倒不是说罗德岛上除了他们就没别的怪人了,也不是说他们的品质存在任何欠缺。博士,我曾向你解释过,精英干员不一定是无出其右的强悍人物,但一定是罗德岛的前锋:一群立誓为理想奉献一切,并且在最艰难的场合下仍能履行这一誓言的人。
跨越死亡,迎接更平等的愿景。
至于“怪人”这种评价,博士你和他们当中的大部分人都共同行动过,你当然明白这其中的缘由,让我来补充一些细节吧:煌经常在医疗部领到自己的危殆通知书,因为她每次参与高强度作战都会休克两到三次;Stormeye遇到强敌时很容易沉迷于战斗,需要Sharp这种将“绝不做多余的事”奉为人生准则的家伙把他从火线上扯下来;Misery那套眼花缭乱的匕首杂耍和他的源石技艺其实半点关系都没有,灵感来自他与Outcast之间的一场赌局;Mechanist的机油泡沫拉花咖啡确实存在,而Mantra对悄悄掌握舰上的花边新闻独有一套窍门......
至于逻各斯?呵,我想罗德岛上有很多人还记得那一场圆凳滑行赛。很可惜,博士,你并不在场,但你猜对了,比赛是由他组织发起的。他们先在工作间里进行了分组赛和循环赛,然后把决赛的赛场搬到了训练场。决赛前夜,逻各斯伙同Mechanist对干员训练场地进行了一些未经许可的改造。当选手们第二天来到赛场时,他们发现自己实际上将要面对的是一场兼具急弯和上下坡的残酷障碍赛。
煌是第一个出局的。她靠热气加速起步,结果烤化了轮子上的塑料;Mechanist赛前表示胜券在握,但在出发后遇到的第一个U型弯道上,便被自己亲手布置的机关扫出赛道;Misery在匀速前进的圆凳上陷入思索,没有及时避让,导致原本领先一圈的Outcast追尾......随着种子选手们纷纷出局,Ace后来居上,与逻各斯和Scout展开了最终的角逐。就在他们以挤成一团的姿态冲向终点的时候,阿米娅走了进来,凯尔希跟在她的身后。Ace立刻退出赛道,但逻各斯和Scout显然没有注意到刚才还在欢呼助威的围观人群已经安静了下来。总之,逻各斯荣获冠军,Scout位列亚军,没有第三名。在凯尔希的监督下,阿米娅首次以罗德岛领袖的身份对事件主要负责人——也就是逻各斯——进行了“严肃”的批评。
你看,精英干员,就是这样一帮怪人。
加入这帮怪人的行列,其实比许多人想象的要简单得多。成为精英干员并不需要通过任何考核流程,只需要得到阿米娅,以及精英干员会议的正式认可。假如一切顺利,你会收到一件礼物。那是一把奇特的小钥匙,只有它可以打开工作间的门。通过那扇门后,你才算真正成为罗德岛的精英干员。
也许你还不知道,博士,每一把钥匙都由逻各斯亲手创造,没有任何人可以将它们从精英干员手中夺走。因此,钥匙也被精英干员看作一种信物。假如持有者再也不能回来,逻各斯会第一个知道,然后令它们自行焚毁,不留余渣。
逻各斯,还有我刚才讲到的每一个怪人,都很清楚“理想”将会向他们索取多大的代价。

自逻各斯踏足伦蒂尼姆的那一刻起,来自过去的枝蔓便一点点缠住了女妖的脚步。他很清楚,自己最终在战场上直面那些选择了特雷西斯的王庭之主时,也将直面卡兹戴尔迄今为止的历史。历史将斥责他,试图压垮他,逼迫他顺从;因为一位年轻的王庭之主,竟敢否定血脉赋予他的责任,试图摧毁由奎隆亲手栽下的根系。那场令他命悬一线的战斗是一场无比残酷的考验,但逻各斯活了下来。
他的信念亦随他幸存。
逻各斯告诉我们,他与博士谈论过这样一种观点:除却具体的危机,卡兹戴尔的萨卡兹们始终背负着一个难解的诅咒,好比一道自相悖反的咒术谜题。为了让我们理解,逻各斯这样解释道:如果想要解除女妖的致盲诅咒,那么最快捷有效的方式,就是将自己的眼睛刺瞎。然而,就算用这种方式解除了诅咒,你也再不能够视物。在卡兹戴尔,无论是过去还是现在,试图解救她的人都面临着相似的困境——那些试图背负使命的人,必将被历史的重担拖垮;那些试图舍弃重担的人,将无法描绘萨卡兹所企盼的未来。
这样的启示并不仅仅来自英雄时代的双子。逻各斯长久地困惑于菈玛莲的选择,试图为她带领女妖离开卡兹戴尔,又不全然置身事外的态度找到一个合理的解释,终于,他在伦蒂尼姆得到了答案。从目送他与巴别塔一道离开卡兹戴尔的那一刻起,菈玛莲便将自己留在了过去,她早已在那些枝蔓上刻下了裂口,只待逻各斯找到挣脱的方式。她始终相信,他的智慧将超越她的期待。
很可惜,历史不会等待女妖完善他的理论。
由于罗德岛在伦蒂尼姆的一系列行动,卡兹戴尔的棋盘已被掀翻。军事委员会武装力量的崩溃与数位王庭之主的陨落将唤起野心之火的余烬,令它再一次燃起。纵然巫妖们久违地走出他们的圣殿,竭尽全力维持秩序,卡兹戴尔仍然极有可能陷入新一轮的内乱。历史的诅咒正在咆哮,除非卡兹戴尔如今的掌权者能够及时掌控局势,除非......
